July’s Quote of the Month is about friends you meet when you travel. Does it give you inspiration? It brought Bangkok to my mind because it was one of the most random incidents of my three-month Asia journey, as far as meeting people goes.
Waiting out a typhoon inside a fancy McCafe in Hong Kong, I desperately connected to the WiFi to check my email. At long last, FINALLY a connection to Bangkok! A friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of my mom’s had found someone I could stay with. This was only three days before my arrival in Bangkok, mind you.
“A journey is best measured in friends, rather than miles.”
~ Tim Cahill
I don’t even remember why finding a place to stay in Bangkok had been so difficult. But I was asking for it by not planning ahead better.
Nevertheless, it all worked out for the best! I really hit it off with the gal I stayed with. Through her, I met the most amazing people from all over the world–the UK, Germany, Russia, California, Japan, Korea, and Pakistan.
Within a few days, I was sold. I would love to live in Bangkok.
You meet the best people when you travel. And you don’t have to travel far! Granted, I did make it all the way to Thailand from Seattle for the photo you see here, but don’t be fooled. I had only five days in Thailand. Didn’t even get close to all those beaches everyone talks so much about, because I was having SO MUCH FUN staying in one place.
I’ll find myself relaxing in Chiang Mai or Krabi someday! Just don’t mind taking my time to get there.
You may have already noticed that quote quietly sitting there in the sidebar. I’ll be changing the quote of the month–you guessed it–monthly. My aim is to inspire travel–so please comment below about what this quote means to you, whether your story is related to travel or anything else.
Edit: I no longer display a quote of the month. But I have finally been to Krabi! It was so worth it. I even found out many beach hacks along the way.
